Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing
and
Queensborough Community College
Dual/Joint RN to BS Degree Program in Nursing
The Queensborough Community College program in Nursing, established in 1967, has developed into one of the
largest associate degree programs in New York State. In fact, Queensborough is the major educator of
registered nurses in Queens. Clinical nursing courses for students are offered in the fall and spring semesters.
The Nursing clinical curriculum is integrated into the college setting and provides a strong foundation in general
education, biological sciences, social sciences, as well as nursing science. The associate degree nurse is
educated to function in a variety of structured health care settings and provide direct care to patients with
common, well-defined health care needs.
Queensborough Community College Nursing Clinical students in NU 101, Safe and Effective Care of Client Level I,
may apply for the Dual/Joint Degree Program in Nursing with Hunter College. Students must have an average of B
or better and receive a recommendation from their NU 101 clinical faculty. In addition to the courses required for the
Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, students will be encouraged to complete more liberal arts courses that
could be applied to the BS degree. An advisor will guide students in the selection of these courses to choose
courses that meet CUNY Pathways/Hunter Core Requirement as well as other degree requirements for Hunter
College and Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing, thereby avoiding potential repetition of requirements.
The Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing has been educating nurses for over 50 years in order to care for the diverse
population of New York City and beyond. The School of Nursing is located on the Brookdale Campus at East 25th
Street and First Avenue adjacent to the VA Hospital, Bellevue Hospital and NYU Medical Center. The program of
study combines liberal arts and professional education with a humanistic and comprehensive approach to
healthcare, leading to a Bachelor of Science degree.
